Video of the Week: Billy Preston-“That’s the Way God Planned It”

Video of the Week is from way back. Billy Preston began as a church organist, had a string of pop gospel hits like the one in the video below. He was affectionately dubbed a fifth member of the Beatles and performed as an organist on their hit song “Let it Be” and other notable songs. Here he joins Beatle George Harrison in a performance before an audience of thousands at the historic and hugely successful benefit concert for Bangladesh held in New York City’s Madison Square Garden on August 1, 1971. The concert raised 12 million for the people of Bangladesh who were battling war-related starvation and genocide at the time. Royalties from the sale of the related documentary and album sales continue to this day to fund George Harrison’s Foundation for UNICEF, which was founded with famous Indian musician Ravi Shankar.

If you are reading this blog on your mobile device, go to the View web version link in the footer column at the bottom of this page. It will take you to the desktop version of this blog where you can view the video in its entirety by following the You Tube link or if you are feeling lucky, just Google it.

Enjoy this history lesson which is a segment of today’s podcast. The link will be provided in the near future. God bless your day.

Doing a Good Job

This song was originally broadcast back in April during the height of the coronavirus public health  crisis. Frontline workers were in need of sincere and heartfelt expressions of gratitude. Alicia Keys being the megawatt musician and humanitarian she is delivered powerfully with Doing a Good Job. Alicia pays a touching tribute to all the health care workers who have been working fearlessly and tirelessly attending to the overflow of Corona virus patients admitted to the hospitals worldwide. The lyrics and melody soar as much as the cause.

I just wanted to lift this song up again during this time frontline workers and first responders are being challenged in so many other ways as they rescue and provide care to those in need.

Beautiful song. Amazing! Thank you, Alicia Keys!

Limited Number of Virginia Tech Concert Tickets Are Being Made Available to the Public For Purchase

BLACKSBURG, Va., August 26, 2007 -- A limited number of tickets available to the general public will go on sale Tuesday, August 28 at 10 a.m. for the September 6 "A Concert for Virginia Tech" via MusicToday.com.

As you probably already know, the concert will feature performances by Dave Matthews Band,John Mayer,Nas and Phil Vassar. All musicians are waiving their fees for the concert, which will be a celebration of the strength and resiliency of the Hoakie spirit as the community recovers from the April 16 shooting tragedy which claimed the lives of 33 of its members.

I was happy to learn that a limited number of tickets are being offered to the general public.I'm sure there are a lot of music fans who will be happy to participate in this celebration and have the opportunity to see some of their favorite recording artists in concert "live" as well.

It should be a great celebration.

Peace,

Cynthia

Music Medicine Cometh to Lift the Spirits and Ease Life's Pains

"Messages and Notes from a Bottle" (more)

John Mayer,Dave Matthews Band, Phil Vassar
and Nas Join in a Concert to Lift the Spirits of Virginia Tech

Directions for use:

Unlike bronze, wood, stone. clay,or canvas, "music sculptors" use music, songs and lyrics as their artistic medium of expression, designing musical mixes using themes that soothe the heart, mind and soul. Their designs are multi-dimensional and can bring other textures and mediums to bear on the ultimate concept as well.I've discovered throughout the years that music is a pretty potent multi-level healer and that a song can in combination quite often with other things, perform laser sharp heart(figuratively speaking),psychic and emotional surgery. Vibrating into knooks ,crannies and crevices of the heart that would otherwise go untouched, I don't think any other medium surpasses its non-invasive,yet tremendously subtle fluid delivery. Yes. For raw or subtle emotional impact, a song is definitely the way to go.--Cynthia D. Wilson. excerpted from the Airlift II-Love Soother Mix blog.

That "love and music are healing forces of the world"... Anyone who knows me is well aware that I put together what I have dubbed "music sculptures",not only to set certain moods and tones, but to emit healing ,comforting and soothing sounds to the soul and "lift the spirits"with music of course.

During this blog and related podcast series, where I interject various play lists, you'll not only get my take on some of the artists, but you'll also learn how I've applied their songs in the sound healing process. Sound interesting?

So,in anticipation and celebration of the upcoming concert at Virginia Tech on September 6,2007,which is a "celebration of life" and an event to "lift the spirits with music", I am lifting several blogs and comments which I made on music message boards and blogs around the internet, including a play list put together especially and dedicated to what is sure to be a tremendously uplifting concert experience.

The next prescription: "A Dose of John Mayer" will focus on the healing sounds of his music and a recommended play list as part of the weekend inspiration (music sculpture).

Peace,

Cynthia

Tsunami Aid: A Concert of Hope (click here)

Since today is technically a "day of rest"...I thought I'd send you some more music to chill by.Most of my minister friends are probably laughing or "snarling"(and,I mean that in the best possible sense of the word). No, not like the phrase "friendly fire". Stop kidding around.

A few are probably still at church basking in the ambience of the morning worship experience, while finally getting the opportunity to fellowship with the trustee board(fun,fun.fun...). As the saying goes, "no rest for the weary". I'm referring to the long day on Sundays and then you still have to be there for that family emergency or prayer call while displaying eager and fresh enthusiasm.

I thought I'd top this update provided in sister blog "Heavier Octaves" about the Tsunami Aid :Concert of Hope benefit concert that was held over two(2) years ago. This was really the first or should I say, "the" inaugural benefit concert playlist for "Heavieroctavesradio". Yes,the words did run together.And,yes. You can find it like that if you google it. We were a part of the Live 365 internet station server back then, but have since relocated.

There was some really great music that came out of that concert. As a bonus to you,you can find it on my playlist of pics from that show entitled the same. Click on my iLike page.

Now, get some rest. I know, the pot calling the kettle black in a sense. Here is the link to the original posting:
